  S. Maria di Collemaggio is the most famous Abbey in Abruzzo and it is at only 300 mt.
It was built by Pietro Morrone who was coroned pope there in 1294. The large facade is made of pink and white marble with three great rose windows. The legend says that he had a dream with the Virgin Mary that ordered him to build a basilica on the Collemaggio hillside.
On the left hand wall there is the Porta Santa (the holy pardon door) that every year is open for the Perdonanza festivity in August 28th.
